Gotchaversary

One year ago today we walked in to the civil affairs office in Chongqing and met a scared little boy who could not walk or crawl or feed himself. It's hard to believe it has already been a year. It's hard to believe it has only been a year. He has grown so much and learned so much since we brought him home. Now he not only walks but runs, climbs and rides a mean scooter. His vocabulary is growing in leaps and bounds, particularly when it comes to words he needs to boss us around and anything with wheels. And once he learned to feed himself, he never looked back. I always thought being a parent meant eating the good stuff your kids leave on their plates, at least during the early years. Somehow we seem to have reversed those roles at our house.
We're celebrating our family's birthday today with a pizza party for David and his neighborhood friends at lunch today. (A big thank you to Alma for agreeing to hostess while we're at work!) Tonight I'm sneaking out of work an hour early, and we're headed to David's favorite Chinese restaurant for dinner. It's the one with great views of both the kitchen ("hot!") and the green line ("choo choo!") and fortunately also happens to be delicious.

His beautiful eyes tell the whole story - no linger filled with confusion and fear but now with wonder, excitement, and love for everything around him!

How blessed we are to be able to call ourselves "grandparents" to this GRANDson!

Happy Gotcha Day - we are also celebrating with Chinese food tonight! Grandmommy has learned to make some pretty good spring/egg rolls!
