If I die, it will ruin the weekend

Sixteen years ago, my family traveled to Washington, D.C. to watch my uncle Joe be sworn in as US ambassador to everyone's favorite former Soviet state, Turkmenistan. My grandma Zieg did not come, saying that if she died while we were there, it would ruin the weekend. Indeed. So when she died today, we knew we should try very hard not to let it ruin our weekend. In her memory, here's our Sunday...

David and I in Chinatown. David stuffing his face with egg noodles and selecting a treat at a Chinese bakery. (He picked a lotus paste moon cake...mmm!)

David giving the goats at the children's zoo the what for. Stay tuned for zoo video later this week...

We also plan on going to breakfast and ordering "well done" waffles in Zieg's honor. To make the experience more authentic, we'll wonder aloud why there are so many people in the restaurant. Shouldn't they all be working?

Leslie, has your hair always been curly?

For all you who knew, met, or have only heard of Zieg, please eat several pieces of chocolate instead of your vegetables on Wednesday and say a prayer are all mothers, including our Zieg!

With such a busy day, how did you ever have time to call all of the boys from Grandma Zieg's high school?

By the way, my hair was curly today. I even had my yearbook picture to document this fact.
